Freedom in Forgiveness
"But Esau ran to meet him, hugged him, threw his arms around him, and kissed him. Then they wept....Esau said, “What do you mean by this whole procession I met?” “To find favor with you, my lord,” he answered. “I have enough, my brother,” Esau replied. “Keep what you have.” - Genesis 33:4-9
Jacob and Esau had a damaged relationship. Jacob deceived Esau and took his birthright, then decived their father and took Esau's inheritance. Esau had every reason to have a grudge against Jacob, in fact Jacob even feared Esau might kill him when they met. Yet when they finally met, Esau embraced his brother, having forgiven him. Both brothers experienced freedom because of Esau's forgiveness.
Talking points - When have you been forgiven unexpectedly? Is there anyone needing your forgiveness? Are you burdened by unforgiveness?
Prayer suggestion - Take a moment to thank God for the forgiveness he has offered you. Pray that you can be as generous in forgiveness as God has been to you.
